For Dexter by Donald Conrad

As I lay slow

And done

An old friend strokes my head

I blink tears from tired eyes

Put myself to her as it fades to heaven’s pillow

  2. I love the way you have set the mood in your poem with your word choices. The back vowels in "slow," "done," "old," and "strokes" lend a feeling of sadness and finality. The meaning of the words "slow," "done," "tears," "tired," and "fades" contributes to an overall feeling of poignancy. Without even knowing Dexter, I am touched by his passing.
